Holyport Lodge Care Home, Maidenhead
Located within the Holyport Conservation Area and adjacent to a Grade II* listed Real Tennis Club, this project involved the demolition of the existing building and its replacement with a new, purpose-built care home.
Smith Jenkins demonstrated to the local planning authority that, due to numerous extensions and alterations, the existing structure made no meaningful contribution to the character or appearance of the conservation area and was not suitable for re-use because of inherent building constraints.
A detailed assessment of the conservation area and the site was undertaken to understand the local context and inform the design approach. We also represented our client throughout the process, including pre-application discussions and public consultation.
The proposals were unanimously approved at Planning Committee and will deliver the first new care home in the area for 12 years.
