Queen's Yard, London
Smith Jenkins provided heritage advice and support for two planning applications at Queen’s Yard in Hackney to support the ongoing transformation of the area to become a cultural hub and social destination.
Sitting within the sensitive Fish Island and White Post Lane Conservation Area, and with a number of non-designated heritage assets within and beyond the Site, the scheme will allow for the revival of a number of underutilised buildings within Queen’s Yard, with carefully designed extensions and additions reflecting the industrial past and contemporary social use of the area.
The proposals involve the creation of a new bar and restaurant within a former factory building of the Clarnico confectionary works, and the addition of a padel court on the roof of a former workshop.
As well as providing heritage advice and heritage statements at application stage, we were also involved in discussions with the local authority during the determination period to ensure that the history of the buildings on Site was properly understood, and that the proposed scheme was an acceptable next step for the area.
