Burnside PRU currently provides education to around 30 pupils aged 11-16 who have experienced difficulties and been excluded from mainstream education. The school’s cohort includes students with EHCPs, who will be assessed at Burnside school and secured a place in a specialist provision school that suits the student’s needs.
Burnside Secondary was identified for replacement through the School Rebuilding programme. To be eligible for this programme, schools must meet one of the specific criteria which includes buildings which had severe or urgent condition that meant they were a high priority for replacement or, their buildings had risks that have the potential to cause significant Burnside Pupil Referral
Unit, Chingford harm to pupils and/or staff that meant they were a high priority for replacement.
Smith Jenkins is instructed to undertake preapplication
discussions with the Council, public consultation and a planning application submission. The work is currently ongoing.
