Jennifer Cooke

Director

Jennifer has recently joined Smith Jenkins as a Director having previously been a Director of the Built Heritage Team at RPS Group. As a qualified lawyer and with a Masters in Cultural Heritage Management, Jennifer is able to combine knowledge of conservation theory and heritage assessment with the analytical and project management skills gained as a lawyer. She has experience advising commercial and public-sector clients and an aptitude for interpreting legislation, guidance and policy.

Jennifer is a full member of the Institute of Historic Buildings Conservation and has worked with both private and public sector organisations to help clients and design teams develop high quality development proposals appropriate to their historic contexts. Projects include heritage assessment and design advice to support alterations to listed buildings, large schemes (which often include tall buildings), including new residential developments in rural and town-edge settings as well as mixed-use masterplans. These projects regularly involve the assessment of a large number of heritage assets and heritage related design advice to help shape and mitigate the potential impact of design proposals on the significance of heritage assets. Finally, Jennifer provides expert witness advice at appeal and has worked on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects with specific focus on the assessment of the cumulative impact of the design.
