Edwin Burch
Planning Assistant
Edwin joined Smith Jenkins following his studies at the University of Sheffield, where he obtained both a BA in Geography and Planning and an RTPI-accredited MSc in Urban and Regional Planning. One of his particular interests in planning is how it can influence health and wellbeing. This was the focus of his MSc dissertation, which explored how planning interventions – such as mapped walking routes – can incentivise walking in rural towns as a form of exercise within the urban environment, aiming to increase levels of physical activity and help tackle the obesity crisis.
Before joining Smith Jenkins, Edwin gained valuable experience with several planning practices in Sheffield, SLR Transport Planning, and Network Rail’s Anglia Town Planning team. He is a student member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and is working towards achieving chartered status.
Outside of work, Edwin enjoys sports and fitness, spending time in the gym, and hiking – particularly around the Peak District, having lived close by for four years during his studies.
