Our story

Smith Jenkins Ltd was established in 2012 as an independent town planning consultancy based in Milton Keynes. Since then we have worked hard to gain and maintain a reputation for delivering excellence for our clients. In 2021, we broadened our offering to include heritage & townscape services across the country.

Communication and accountability

Communication is fundamental to what we do, whether it be with our clients, consultants or a local planning authority. Whilst we have excellent working relationships with a number of local authorities, we are also not afraid to pick up the phone and quickly forge working relationships with new contacts.

We believe that we get the best results when we are ourselves – friendly but focussed.

Each project is managed by senior level staff who provides open, honest and constructive feedback. We respond to emails within an appropriate timeframe.


The depth and strength of our team makes us unique. With backgrounds in local authority, Historic England and other statutory consultees, we have an in depth knowledge of the world that we work in.

We work collaboratively and share knowledge to benefit our clients and others within the team. We talk about our projects so that our advice is focussed on putting our clients ahead of the game.

We build long lasting relationships with our clients and other consultants, which are ultimately, based on trust. Whilst many of our clients are long standing, we do not rest on our laurels and always strive for improvement.

Importantly, what sets us apart from others is the way we embed ourselves in a project. We think about the ways in which we can tell the story of a development, defining the thought process which ultimately leads to a successful planning application.
